Northwind Field Notes

Coastal observations

A small log of weather, tides, and routing notes for day boats.

Morning glass, afternoon chop

21 October 2026 · Osaka Bay

The bay was flat at first light, with a light land breeze and visibility past the breakwater. By late morning the sea breeze filled in from the southwest and the chop built quickly inside the channel.

Small craft leaving after 11:00 should expect a short, steep wave on the ebb. The inside route along the eastern shore stayed workable; the open stretch toward the island was not.

Tide window for the inner basin

18 October 2026 · Inner basin

The sill at the basin entrance is passable for a 1.2 m draft from about two hours before high water until an hour after. Yesterday's low left less than half a metre over the bar, so the early departure was held.

Next usable window is the afternoon flood. Check the local board before casting off; the published times have been running a few minutes late this week.
